Have you heard? Lithium ion batteries are the latest in golf cart technology. They incorporate many features that aren’t found in regular golf car batteries, such as zero battery maintenance, and superior performance. Lithium ion batteries provide a faster charge time while saving energy.

Increase of Capacity

With a lithium battery, a golf cart can significantly increase its weight-to-performance ratio. Lithium batteries weigh less than a lead-acid battery, which means the golf cart can accelerate with less effort and carry more weight without it feeling bogged down.

This weight-to-performance ratio lets the golf cart carry two adults with equipment before maximizing its capacity. Regardless of the battery’s charge, lithium batteries will hold the same voltage outputs. This means that lithium batteries last exceptionally longer than lead-acid batteries.

No Maintenance

As a major advantage, lithium batteries require no maintenance at all. On the other hand, lead-acid batteries need to be cleaned, watered and tightened regularly. As a result, time, energy and money are saved.

Charging Speed

Every golf cart has to be charged. What separates lithium batteries from lead-acid batteries is the charging speed. Lithium batteries maintain consistent power and speed on any terrain. Lead-acid batteries slow the golf cart down as the voltage dips. As if that’s not enough, lead-acid batteries take 8+ hours to charge, where lithium batteries can charge up to 80% in about an hour and reach full charge in three hours.

Green Batteries

Since lithium batteries take less time to charge, they put less strain on the environment by using less energy. Lead-acid batteries can be harmful to the environment as they contain hazardous material.

Battery Life

Lithium chemistry within the lithium batteries increases the number of charge cycles. An average lead-acid battery lasts for 500-1,000 cycles, while an average lithium battery lasts from 2,000-5,000 charge cycles.

Although lithium batteries cost more than lead-acid batteries, the difference in quality is obvious, and the money savings in the long run are apparent. Since the lifespan is longer on lithium batteries, you could go through two or more lead-acid batteries in the same amount of time, making the cost about even. With less maintenance and a longer lifespan, lithium batteries are a quality, cost-effective option.

Longer Warranty

Perhaps our favorite part about lithium batteries is the long warranty. For lead-acid batteries, the warranty is typically two years. With lithium batteries, the warranty is a whopping eight years.
